Act of Goodwill, Inc. (“Act of Goodwill”, “we”, “us”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Queens, New York. We respect your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect through actofgoodwill.org (the “Site”), how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Information you give us. When you fill in a form on the Site, we collect what you enter:
- Volunteer sign-up: your name, email, phone number, city or borough, ZIP code, areas of interest, availability, skills, how you heard about us, and your confirmation of age or guardian consent.
- Contact form: your name, email, phone number (optional), subject and message.
Donations. Donations are processed by an independent payment provider on its own secure website. We do not see or store your full card or bank details. The provider shares with us the information needed to record your gift and send your receipt, such as your name, email, amount and the fund you chose. Technical information. Like most websites, our hosting provider and our security service (Cloudflare) process technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. This is used to deliver the Site, keep it secure and prevent abuse. Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people apart from spam bots.
Analytics. By default, the Site does not use analytics or tracking cookies. If we turn on Google Analytics in the future, it will only run after you agree to it through the cookie banner. See our Cookie Policy.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- reply to your messages and requests;
- organize volunteering and contact you about opportunities you signed up for;
- process and acknowledge donations and send tax receipts;
- keep the Site secure and prevent spam and fraud;
- meet our legal and accounting obligations.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We do not share it with other organizations for their marketing.
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers who help us run the Site and our work, and only as needed:
- our web hosting provider, which stores form submissions on our behalf;
- Cloudflare, for security, spam protection and content delivery;
- our email provider, which delivers form notifications and replies;
- our donation provider, for donations.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Act of Goodwill, our volunteers or the public.
How long we keep it
We keep form submissions only as long as we need them for the purpose they were collected, and then delete them. [TO CONFIRM: retention period, e.g. volunteer records for 3 years after last contact, contact messages for 2 years.] Donation records are kept as long as required by tax and accounting rules.
How we protect it
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards, in line with New York’s SHIELD Act. Form data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored outside the public part of our web server. Access is limited to authorized staff. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you if a breach affects you, as required by law.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop contacting you. Email us at actofgoodwill786@gmail.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian’s consent.
Links to other websites
The Site links to other websites, such as our social media pages and our donation provider. Their privacy practices are their own, so please read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed.
